Where do the richest folks live in China? Beijing? Shanghai? Guangzhou? Not entirely right. There are actually nine rural rich villages hidden in China. Today I am going to guide you through these “Tuhao” villages.

Huaxi Village, known as the "No.1 village under the sky", claims to be the richest village in China with over 60 companies in the fields of mineral resources, hi-tech and agricultural products. By the end of 2013, its available capital reached 2.6 billion yuan. The former village chief Wu Renbao, who developed a plan to turn what used to be a poor rural locality into a modern rich community, passed away on March 18. Now his fourth son, Wu Xieen succeeds him in the post.

Nanshan Village is an epitome of new village in Shandong. By 2012, its Nanshan Group achieved sales revenues of more than 100 billion yuan, making it top 500 large-scale enterprises in China. Its main business includes golf course, sea-view rooms and electrolytic aluminums. Recently it launched a high-profile project on aviation industrial park, but the conflicts with its villagers just keep escalating as their interests are infringed.

Changjiang Village is another very wealthy village in Jiangyin. Its Xin Chang Jiang Group ranked the 195th of China’s top 500 enterprises and 13th of China’s top 100 private enterprises in 2011. It’s no secret that China has the world’s fastest growing major economy, but some of its residents like to flaunt their riches anyway. Changjiang Village has been giving out all kinds of gifts to its villagers such as private villas for every family, stock dividends, cash and consumption coupons. In 2012, 3,000 villagers were given 100-gram bars of gold and silver.

Dongling Village of Shanxi Province ranked the fourth of China’s top 100 most powerful villages. The village-owned Dong Ling Group has successfully merged and acquired several SOEs and engages in the fields of coking production, iron and steel smelting, mineral development and wood logistics.
