But don't you think that Europe might become Russia's playground if America opts to stay out of it? It's doubtful that Britain, France and German have the capacity to take on Russia's military might collectivelly, let alone other small nations.

I'm totally convinced by the view that most East European nations would still have been Russia's stooges had America decided not to get involved in issues related to Europe. The Soviet Union could have strenghened its power base in socialistic nations and augmented its political and cultural influence in Western nations.

Russia's sephere of influence has been hemmed in for years by the military alliance between America and Nato, punctuated by  shared interests and cooperation between the United States and Europe.  Essentially, that's the only way to counter Putin's attempts to build a new kingdom which prizes the merits of dirigisme and statism, rather than privationization and free markets. It's a political system in which central planning, pomp, formalism, cronyism and hierarchical social structure are the distinctive features.  On the other hand, indivual rights and the right to vote are subject to government surveillance and regulation.

if Putin and his ilk have a chance to call the shots in Europe again, then croynism capitalism  quasi-Marxism will move the needle in Europe.
