A student has opened fire inside a school in the Logan section of Philadelphia, injuring two other students, according to police officials.

The shooting took place inside a gymnasium at the Delaware Valley Charter High School on Friday afternoon.
Police arrested the suspect who shot one male and one female in the arm. One reportedly is 15 years old and the other 16.
The shooter, who is a teenage male and a student at the school, pulled out a handgun and opened fire.
Victims were taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center in stable condition.

Officials say the school has been placed on lockdown and students are being searched and then released on a one-by-one basis.

The incident happened three days after another shooting in a school in the southeastern New Mexico City of Roswell wounded several students.

According to an investigation by the Daily Beast, one school shooting has taken place in America every two weeks on average over the past year.

A new poll found that an estimated 40 percent of households in the United States have at least one gun owner.
The Economist/YouGov poll found that about 24 percent of American adults surveyed said they personally own a gun and 15 percent said they do not personally own one but someone in their home does.

A scientific study published by the American Journal of Medicine in September found that the rate of gun violence is positively correlated with gun ownership rates, supporting arguments put forth by many critics who blame the notoriously liberal gun control laws in the US for the high rate of gun violence in the country.
