Very interesting pictures
Stan, you're holding a gun to God's head. I can't think of a metaphor that's better than this.

No, do not underestimate these people. No, they do not wear a suit & tie to work. No, they do not wear expensive branded shoes or drive branded cars. Yes, they look shabby and unkempt. But, examine carefully as these people has more money stashed under their beds and pillows than what a city guy earns in 3 years with a huge credit card debt. I live in an area where farming is the way of life and farmers own apartments rented out daily to holiday makers and laughing all the way to the bank wearing worn out pants, shirts and shoes.

Food is going to be a major issue in the future.

As such the government should pay more attention to it's production and distribution.

The market seller is part of the distribution channel and therefore the government need to ensure that fresh food are correctly stored when distributed from the farm to the city. The bird flu is a case in point where contamination in one part of the food supply chain will mean having to destroy an entire crop because you cannot guarantee which part of the chain is not affected.

The vegetable sellers need to be properly housed and the food properly stored. This requires long term investment and cannot happen overnight as it takes a long time to educate and to build the infrastructure one at a time. Therefore this change need to begin now. This is not about subsidising the vegetable or other food sellers. It is about protecting the food source and supply to the rest of the population.
