Many small and medium-sized Chinese grocerystores and supermarkets in Argentinawere looted after the recent police strike, under a Facebook event organized tocall on people to rob stores for a "Happy Christmas”.

Riots and lootings first broke out lastweek after police staged strikes to demand a pay rise and better workingconditions. Government departments, banks, schools and other facilities had allbeen closed. The looting had spread to 20 out of 23 provinces in the SouthAmerican country on Wednesday and 12 people were killed, including one Chineseshop owner.

Riots are almost bound to happen in nationsthat suffer from poor economy. Chaotic behavior generated by mobs can do muchharm to the peacefulness of the country and hamper other people’s normalbusiness. But why are Chinese stores the main victims of the incidents? Arethere any typical reasons?

Massive looting behavior takes place in Argentina before Christmas almost every year due to its morbid economy and high inflation rate, and was compounded this year by the police strike. Argentine cabinet chief Jorge Capitanich alleged the looting was "not spontaneous but organized" by "groups that want to provoke chaos and panic."

Li Wei, deputy minister of public security, has gone to Argentina to negotiate with the government about protection measures for Chinese nationals there, while The Chinese Embassy in Argentina has demanded local police protect the safety and property of Chinese people there.

You know, it is very simple...........how many foreigners have shops in China? And what happens to these foreign owned shops when Chinese people are on the rampage? You are being disingenuous here

And then what happens to Japanese cars and auto shops during anti Japan rallies?

Shall I take my crayon out now?

The Chinese Embassy in Argentina has demanded local police protect the safety and property of Chinese people there.

How so? Is chinese government protectiing the safety and wellbeing of foreigners in China? tut!

legal or not is not the question once they're inside of your country you just have to protect dem just like the rest of the motley crues...you just cant afford bad rap goin around the globe...and when you kno there would be a riot or some kokoo event taklin place you just have to shutdown & arm guarded your shop but not to invite dem to help themselves with your stuffs...just think like the thieves do then you'll be more than a safe side  {:soso_e114:}{:soso_e113:}{:soso_e128:}

Why is Li Wei meddling in Argentina? Can he prove that these Chinese are legal residents in Argentin ...

Happened a couple years ago in France. The Chinese in Paris were complaining that they were the target of a lot of mugging (which makes sense, Chinese do not like banks and often have huge wads of cash on them and, statistically, they do not report it to the police).

The ambassador of China in France asked the French government to protect the safety and property of the Chinese people in Paris. The secretary of state replied to him "thank you for not interfering in our domestic affairs, we protect all people on our territory equally, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender or religion. If a Chinese national is the target of of a crime or misdemeanor he/she should report it to the police who will investigate according to our laws".
