I traveled to Korea last year. In Korea, they like to give foreigners special deals, while in Southeast Asia, they often try to get as much money from foreigners as possible.

There are no dual pricing for the Forbidden City in Beijing. Foreign students studyiing in Chinese universities are even offered a discount with valid student id. I've never been to Yangshuo, but isn't it ridiculous that government encourages overcharging foreigners?

One of the peddlers told me: I overcharged a laowai(foreigner), and he thanked me when he left!

This is when it is useful to have a Chinese wife. Mine does all the negotiating while I stay out of sight, and believe me, she is a ferocious negotiator.

No it's NOT fair enough. All visitors, whatever their nationalities, should pay exactly the same amount. Especially considering touristic prices are already jacked up (15RMB for a pancake, seriously ?).

I'm French, imagine for a moment what would be the reactions if in Galeries Lafayette we had a price for locals and a price for foreigners. Would you still find it fair enough ?
