Last week I accompanied my daughter to go to the UK in order to start her university course at a top UK university.
I have tried to teach her the basics of life in the UK as it is so different to the life she has had in Shanghai. LIke most 18 year olds she was reluctant to help around the house back home but has at least picked up the basics.
Her accomodation has 6 seperate bedroom and each is occupied by a different Chinese girl, all on the same course at the uni. I have been shocked at the lack of basic skills shown by the other students, one tried to put a whole egg ( shell and all ) into a microwave, fortunately she was spotted and stopped and a minor disaster was averted.
This is one more example of how spoiling kids can cause problems for them later in life, will we ever get back to a time when kids helped their parents and thus learned life skills?
it is such a sweet sorrow to see your child fly out of the nest. You must be proud and worried. Wish you and her all the best! You can see this a billion times and the feelings never dim in intensity. Good on ya, father!
