Being an multiple owner of the Jag's, bigger and slower brother the infamous Land Rover for 30+ years I agree, but the servicing cost is horrific.

It's the opposite here. Jags/Landies cost a bomb to service and BMW reasonably cheap in comparison.

Older Jags are pretty easy except for the plugs on the old V12's which from memory meant lifting the motor off the mounts to get at some of the plugs.

The big problem here with Land Rover and Rangies is the parts pricing can be extortionate. I had to replace 2 injectors and the XYZ (inhibitor) switch on the transmission of my Disco a few months ago. $1500 US each for the injectors and over $1000 USD for the switch. Those prices are roughly 2.4 times the prices in the UK. I'm just my Defender is more user servicable.

But gone are the days when you could do most jobs on a car with just a basic tool kit, now you need a special tool for nearly anything. This appears to be the manufacturers way af forcing you to use their service agents.
