It's interesting that many of the other Asians don't feel the need to take English names.  The most obvious exceptions are Fillipinos and Chinese from mainland, Taiwan, HK, Singapore and everywhere else.

I agree. I am not in China now, but i have many Chinese students. Sometimes the names are very strange. Some must base the name on the sound without knowing the meaning or possible misinterpretations. I wonder if someone can explain the name "Seven", taken by a Chinese young woman from Tianjin.

My first name is Greek

My second or middle name is English

Ha ha ha you must be really confused when someone asks you where are you originally from. Ha ha ha it must take you 5 minutes to walk/talk them through the family history!
P.S. I had Ecuadorian friends when I was at University in Europe! One of them had 11 names. They included family names on both maternal and paternal sides, address, county, grandparents, etc. When he introduced himself, for once in my life I was speechless! Ha ha ha :)
