During my trip to South Korea, I found Chinese tourists are spending lavishly on luxurious goods. Hundreds of shoppers flooded the duty-free shops in Jeju and Soeul for their lower prices. The price difference is so significant that some luxuries sold in China are 50% higher than those in South Korea. I wonder why luxury goods are so much more expensive in China. Why does China levy such high duties on them? Why does China get its consumers spend money overseas?

Because Chinese market is still having many tariff and non-tariff barriers. And rich Chinese would pay the price, so the price is settled.

Many rich Chinese would buy their luxury overseas since they are cheaper. Money cannot be wasted on the Chinese market.
