Your reply suggested what I said was wrong, I was asking you to verify what you meant.

Thanks for your reply. It makes sense but let me add a few comments:

I think all of us who ever started to invest in equities had to learn at least one or several hard lessons. The stock exchange is not an ordinary bank account but often resembles more a casino.

Failure or success depends not only on the equities chosen but also on the intention of the investor. Quick entry and exit does in 99% of all cases NOT work and if it works - like recently in Tokyo - one has to be on high alert and play only if the funds are not needed elsewhere.

Last but not least,  patience always pays. If you look over a period of - say - 3 to 5 years, equities - almost all of them- are much better than bonds or saving accounts but, .....it really often needs a lot of patience. This is applicable for ALL stock exchanges.

I agree absolutely. Over the last 15 years I have only invested money I don't anticipate needing for at least 5 years and ensure that risk is balanced. China and India is only a tiny % of my portfolio.
However;

"Rather than holding stocks as long-term investments, most Chinese investors use the market like a casino for short-term speculation. Chinese retail investors trade so frequently that average annual portfolio turnover is more than 700 per cent, says Jerry Lou, chief strategy officer at Morgan Stanley Huaxin Securities in Shanghai.

Portfolio turnover among Chinese mutual funds is also extremely high – more than 300 per cent compared with less than 100 per cent in developed markets. As these funds are judged on the basis of their weekly performance, they must chase short-term profits or face heavy redemptions.

Unfortunately you are correct. This is the reason why investing in the Chinese stock exchange needs such a high level of attention. I'm only invested with roughly 10% in this market and consider the investment 'long time'. Btw, this rapid turnover is not only customary for the mainland exchanges but for HKG and even TPE as well. I just don't have so much time to observe/decide and act on a daily basis. Some European markets and the NIKKEI need far less 'care'.

I just don't have so much ti
