Most vitamin and mineral supplements are chemically synthesised, the body can only absorb about 10% of whatever the stated dosage is. I eat pure Spirulina (from New Zealand) three times daily. It provides almost everything my body needs and boosts energy levels.

Absorbability from the intestines varies based on the chemical.  Fat soluble vitamins/minerals should be taken with meals with fat and no fiber, since fiber blocks these vitamins.  Water soluble vitamins should be taken with lots of water.
