Writer's real name is Lau Guan Kim.  lau_guan_kim is for commentary and analysis. He writes also under another alter ego jinseng. I will respond to good reasoned debate. Mudslingers shall be ignored. What I do not like are ignorance, stupidity, chauvinism and bigotry. The other party has as much right as I have until it resorts to insults and nuisance.

Rotten as your dimwits from Monash University

Careful there, manoj10. Monash is a top university, they grow tall poppies there, and I'd appreciate it if you don't do that again.

For the benefit of readers outside of Australia.

Gumtree is a free advertising site where you can list goods and services for sale. Itis owned by online retailing giant eBay.

The person who placed the advertisement was a Sub-Contractor. A sub-Contractor (or subbie in Australian slang), is a person, or company/business employed by the contractor who in turn is employed by the client to provide a specified service.

In the case of the Coles debacle it will work like this. Coles tenders for cleaning services. XYZ cleaning wins the contract to clean the Coles supermarkets and will then tender for sub-contractors to clean individual stores. The sub-contractors will hire suitable staff (often sub contracting to the sub contractor) who will clean the store.

The advantage of using sub contractors is that they don't fall under employee protection laws and a company doesn't have to pay superannuation or holiday loading and so on. This saves money and also leaves a contractor with a flexible workforce as a sub contractor is only paid for the work they perform and is responsible for the majority of their own taxation and superannuation obligations etc.

Coles is not a racist company per se, but the sub-contractor's worker was/is racist or at the very least a fool.

Sadly such adverts are not uncommon here. I have seen them excluding Indians, Chinese etc just as I have seen Chinese and Indian companies using a loophole in the law to stop whites working for them, that of language. (i.e. Must be fluent Cantonese speaker etc). It's a double edged sword.

Racism is alive and kicking in EVERY nation. Show me one country that's free of racism, you won't be able to.
