looks like the tin foil forumites are here
birds of a feather?
but looking at the photos of this guy, he seems to have constricted emotional tone, not loss of tone, judging by the restricted mobility of his facial muscles, most obviously around his eyes and mouth. Around the eyes it gives a "botoxed" hypervigilant look, and the muscles around the mouth are voluntarily contracted to hide exposure of the teeth.
that's important as it differentiates the issue from one of pure blunting of feeling tonality, which is an involuntary process
more likely, for whatever reason, feelings are unacceptable, leading to a voluntary freezing their expression
an alternative hypothesis is the restriction of facial expression in acute paranoid psychosis
he was known to burn himself - his stated reason was "to feel something"
this is characteristic of personality disorder, which is largely a relational phenomenon, but self harm also sometimes occurs in developmental autistic spectrum disorders (which obviously also affects personality development in major ways).
Personality can sometimes change before a frank psychotic episode and be misdiagnosed as personality disorder, so this is also possible here.
maybe he had little emotional tone, but the explanation for the self-harming behaviour doesn't ring true
bottled frustration looks more likely, but who knows why? He killed the school counsellor, so there may be some case notes. Perhaps he felt nobody understood him & therefore on his own. But probably as well, he poorly communicated with others.
His self harm looks a bit like a temporary attempt to contain violent impulses towards others, generated in interpersonal frustration and difficulty communicating those frustrations verbally
he does not look dulled, but rather boxed in, and he hates it. He looks potentially psychotic from the photos.
He killed his mother. Was he psychotic?
