Mo Yan is stupid to be obsessed with western filthy award and should remember real and factual history of european planned annihilation of China  through opium war :

The Opium wars and illicit drug-smuggling made the Qing Dynasty, which were once the richest nation at the time, a Third World country.

Moreover, exploitation and resources-thieving made Europe what it is today.

Europe did not rise because of greater intelligence or whatever you may want to believe. China would never have done what the Europeans did, they simply were more peaceful and respectful of others.

Now this is a person that has logic.

Yes censorship varies

in democracies

compared

to dictatorships like China.

In democracies it is intended to protect minors from harm for example.

In dictatorships it is intended to protect the leading clique from falling from the cliff and to

eliminate any kind of opposition.
It is indeed very practical that the party is  judge, legislator, head of the army, executor  and  publisher  all in one in China.
