You are right that countries ony take sides on their interests, but the US has no advantage here.
If it sides with Japan, it kills its main trading partner. China is its main hope to crawl out of the recession.
If it sides with China, it kills its main base in Asia. Japan is central to its military power in Asia.
The US is in an imposible situation.
However, there is a strong belief in the western media that nothing will happen here. It is widely believed that this is just the Japanese and Chinese governments playing politics.
Both countries have economic problems and this focuses people's attention away from these problems.
Is this analysis wrong?

if no any compromise between China and Japan all the time, I think it's high risk to erupt a war a ...

Protection treaty is about protecting own territory in case of attack, China will not attack Japan, and Diaoyu is not treated by US as territory of Japan, otherwise mentioned statement would by 180deg different.

You know what action would US perform if Japan asks for protection under valid treaty?
US would fulfill treaty by sending one or two frigates to the Japan borders. Maybe one of the carrier groups.

....And A LOT of reconnaissance equipment, because it would be rare occasion to place it as near Chinise border as never before. And this would be good business, not fight aginst China in any way, shape or form.

If Japan would ask US for help, I suppose that it would be what we could see ;)

US fights only wars that they think can win. So aginst China, near Chinese territory... too much risk.

I agree with you about the last sentence, US fights only what they think can win. But, you know, US has reiterated many times in public that Diaoyu Island is under the JP-US protection treaty, how do you judge so firmly US won't really to protect his little brother, which should lead to down impression in the other allies.

If US would REALLY think, that this islands are protected under treaty - Their high rank officials would never make statement as "will not take sides" (replied).

Why They replied this "key sentence"? To be good understand, that it is not a lapsus, mistake, but it is official statement.

Why some in US presented quite different point of view (befeore mentioned statement)?
Because probably US diplomatic services (starting from US government, ending at the level of embassy clerk) maybe have not had one clear, and coherent possition in that case?

And replied twice in "one shot" statement of high rank (in that field) official means in language of diplomacy: this is current statement, previous are not valid.

btw:
Mentioned "high level official" is Secretary of Defense, that means He is most competent in cases involwing defense of (US) and parties covered by treats.

I'm sure those kind of Singaporeans exist. But probably have been buried in the ground for 25+ yea ...

No, not true.
Why ?
Because Singapore is one of the top four destinations for out-bound Chinese tourists,
and they wouldn't be going there if Singaporeans weren't that nice or welcoming to the Chinese.

China is now the world’s fourth-largest outbound travel market,
and according to Qunar’s report, the list of the top four destinations, Singapore is one of these top four.

1.Hong Kong
2.Taiwan
3.The Maldives
4.Singapore
Please don't shoot, I'm just a babe.
