The British Foreign Office has summoned the Syrian charge d’affaires, accusing the Syrian government of massacre of civilians in the central town of Houla in a suspected exploitation of situation to divert attentions from Britain-linked armed groups’ terrorist activities in the Middle Eastern country.

The Foreign Office said its Political Director Sir Geoffrey Adams will condemn “the Syrian regime’s actions” when he meets the Syrian envoy on Monday.

Meanwhile, British Foreign Secretary William Hague further claimed the Houla massacre has been carried out by the government forces in Syria.

“There are credible and horrific reports that a large number of civilians have been massacred at the hands of Syrian forces in the town of Houla, including children,” Hague said.

This comes as the facts on the ground show London is misusing the situation, before any official investigation into the matter, to drag the Syrian government into the massacre in a bid to clear its own name of the horrific crime.

Syrian officials on Sunday denied carrying out the slaughter in Houla, saying “terrorists” who were “equipped with mortars and anti-tank missiles” are to blame.

Back in February, it was revealed that Britain has been leading arms deliveries and tactical support to Syrian rebels with British forces training members of the armed groups to help topple Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government
.

London’s claim about the Syrian government’s role in the massacre is further questioned by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon’s Friday letter to the Security Council in which he confirmed that the footprints of “established terrorist groups” can be seen in recent bomb attacks in Syria.

"The (Syrian) Government asserts that such groups are active in the country, as do some opposition groups. The al-Nusra Front has claimed responsibility for at least six of the recent bombings," Ban said.

Ban further called for UN members states not to supply arms to the conflicting parties in Syria saying supporting any side with weapons and military training jeopardizes a sustained cease-fire.
