That's one of the major problems with U.S. universities. They place too much emphasis on social
life and not enough on learning. Most likely, these Chinese students came here to study and gain
a good education, not to learn how to fit in with a bunch of party animals.
If capitalism promotes innovation and creativity then why aren't scientists and artists the richest people in a capitalist nation?

for the Amercan dreams

They don't call them 'dreams' for no reason.

Unless you are born into money you have about as much chance of striking through hard work
in the U.S. as you do winning the big lottery.

Agreed that they place too much emphasis on social life and not enough on learning but I do believe social life is an integral part of education and that you learn a lot of the situations you are put into.

I am very biased but I do like the french system that basically reserves one night a week (thursday) for students to party. You'll see lot of students working hard every day of the week but partying hard on thursdays to blow off some steam and hone their social skills.

Some of them might also party on week-ends but it is generally reserved for students to go back to their hometown and be with their families.

On the other hand, you'll see some students not going out on thursdays and instead staying in and study. But I do remember full well my promotion major, who could full well be considered a book worm, partying with us on thursday nights.

Of course, partying doesn't mean binge drinking and being stupid, one can party with moderation. This is also something we learnt thanks to this system. Usually the first and second year, you'd see students dead drunk after a couple hours. Then we grew up and realized there are other ways to enjoy ourselves.

Also, it is generally accepted that the week before and during the midterms, there is to be no party and, should people decide to gather, they would do so in a quiet manner.
