The question the OP stated was - is China safer than the West. Evidence presented appears to relate only to the US.

I'd suggest that the West is a little diverse for a comparison - as Pantarhei indicates ; even the US has big differences between states.

It is the people, not the weapons, that kill.

Yes, so by that argument why not sell dynamite and C4 in your neighborhood hardware store.
We can also have traveling high explosives shows touring the U.S.
Why stop there?
Let's publish all the blueprints for hydrogen bombs and put all the materials on eBay.
But wait.. THERE'S MORE!!!
Let an enterprising capitalist manufacture small hydrogen bombs and market them.
Yes, it's not the weapons that kill people. It's those darned people.
This makes every weapon equally dangerous.. right?
After all, no hydrogen bomb has every just exploded on it's own has it?

Facts speak louder than your belief does.

I have never heard of a Chinese person who was mugged  ...

You use one incident you read about to try and prove a universal argument.
Typical of your pea brain.

There is at least four times fewer murders per capita in China than in the U.S.
But I guess you consider that as propaganda instead of your personal views.

Today's news in the U.S. March 14, 2012
------------------------------------------
HOUSTON (Reuters) - A shooting at a courthouse in Beaumont, Texas, on Wednesday wounded up to three people, and a judge interviewed outside the courtroom after the shooting said one person may have died.

Beaumont Fire Captain Earl White said the condition of the three people who were shot and wounded was not immediately known. White said authorities were still clearing the scene of the shooting.

Jefferson County Judge Larry Gist, who was not in the courthouse when the shooting occurred, said in an interview on CNN that one of the people shot was a witness in a sexual assault case involving a child.

Yesterday's news in the U.S. March 13, 2012 (This time in the state of Maine, one of those safer states, see map above)
---------------------------------------
LAMOINE, Maine (AP) — Maine state police say there's no change in the condition of a man who was critically injured in a weekend shooting that left one man dead and three others hurt.

Police said Tuesday that they were continuing to investigate the weekend confrontation outside a house in the coastal town of Lamoine.

Police say 34-year-old Torrey Garland of Ellsworth suffered life-threatening injuries early Sunday and remains hospitalized. Another victim, 32-year-old Lawrence "Randy" Sinclair of Ellsworth, died from a gunshot wound to the head. Two others were hurt and a fifth man escaped injury.

State police spokesman Steve McCausland says investigators are continuing to sort through the chain of events. No triggerman has been identified and no one has been charged.

This stuff happens almost everyday in our gun loving nation.
Thanks NRA. All the dead people really appreciate your efforts.

See map of homocide rates in post 4.
Mostly it's a perception issue of expats who hardly ever follow local news.
By Category, most US States have an equal or lower homocide rate than China.
Look at western europe in that map with gun regulations much lower than in China.
See Finland on the map, and see knives can make a pretty high homocide rate too.

In the first place, your comparison is absolutely flawed to continuesly compare developing country China with Industrialised country USA, and then expect China to match up and cry and call names when it can't stand the comparison due to your logical flaws.

Try compare China to a compareable developing country and see that it really does have a bloody decent stat sheet in that regard.

I did look at the map in post #4.
The states that have a higher homicide rate are the most populated states. California, Texas, Pennsylvania,
Illinois, Florida, Ohio, Michigan, Georgia, New Jersey, to name a few.
The states where homicide is less are the ones much more sparsely populated. Idaho, North Dakota, Iowa,
New Hampshire. You are trying to twist the statistics to further your gun happy argument.
Nice try, but no cigar.
Read the OP. China has less that 1/4 the homicide rate per capita.
