Why not just rent one?
I still don't see the advantage of buying a house if you live in China.

Im not sure thats a good idea in China, a little bird tells me there is very little legal protection in renting over there.

Its a different matter entirely in Britain, a rented Counci housel is a home for life at a much lower rent than the private sector and you dont have to cough up for any structural repairs.

Well, it's a buyer's market in China; everyone wants to own the house, not many want to rent it. So if you catch a bad landlord, you just move to a different place ;)

Only there are plenty of M0rons in the market owning appartments and expecting them to repay themselves just by increase in value, and thus not necesserily too many renting out landlords.
Legal Protection is bad.
(As it is for ownership, alas)
aaand,
peer preassure coming from all those who have some money and,
amid bad investment market, need to turn to propperty to save it from inflation.

Thus further triggering peer preassure of overexpecting parents, potential spouses, etc.

Yes, most people have bought into popular Capitalism and part of that is home ownership.  Im not against it but there should always be a good stock of state housing for low income workers.

We sold many of them off here but didn't replace them and now we have a chronic shortage of housing, made worse by mass immigration.

Even key skilled professionals in the crowded south-east are priced out of it.

Yeah, there is such in china as well,
it's not low rent though, but subsadised purchase price with potential for big resale margin,
intransparent access and application and distribution processes, discriminating against those in need of them,
and for whom normal capitalist countries would build and offer them transparently to the public,
and usually with very expensive white plated cars parked in front of them.
If you get my drift.
