In stark response to Human Rights Watch's annual report, which according to Xinhua, has tarnished China's reputation of respecting human rights and upholding law and order, China's official news agency People's Daily made a clear announcement: China's human rights situation is in the best of times ever throughout Chinese history.

This is a screenshot of the editorial reflecting the reviews of the government.

The title: Politicization of human rights principles can not be a denial of the progress we have made in human rights.

People's Daily (人民日報) is the official mouthpiece of the communist party of China. Its editorials are usually considered official, standard, "politically correct" by most Chinese citizens.

This is the cover of World Report 2012 by Human Rights Watch, a major international NGO committed to promoting human rights worldwide.

"Recent progress made in human rights is recognized by all. While China has achieved the best economic miracle, our human rights conditions are also in the best of times in history." -- People's Daily editorial, 29-01-2012

"Against a backdrop of rapid socio-economic change and modernization, China continues to be an authoritarian one-party state that imposes sharp curbs on freedom of expression, association, and religion." -- World Report 2012, 22-01-2012

You don't need to be religious to be a fanatical crazy-eyed zealot.
If people want to believe in a god, let them go for it.
Some of them will try to organise politically, but if the country is being well-run (and China is in the biggest boom of its life), then they will have little success.
