[Beijing] Last record of dying hutongs [Copy link] 中文

     Hutong is always recognized to be the best demonstration of Old Beijing's flavor. I planned to start my journey from the east side of Qianmen Donglu Road and to walk along Fengxi Alley. However, what I saw was deadly silence: all the doors were locked, walls covered with weeds and notices of water and electricity's being cut out. Some houses are torn, with their scupltures cut off. When I walked deeper, I found it was the same with many hutongs in the vicinity, which consititutes the biggest "no man's region of hutong". The photos below may be the last records of some hutongs:
