The World Cultures Festival 2011 — Enchanting Arts of Asia, which was presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of Hong Kong, opened at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre on Oct 20 and lasted for a month.
Enchanting Arts of Asia opened with ballet classics by the world-renowned National Ballet of China. Their ballet performances included Ballet Gala, which featured excerpts from timeless masterpieces by Chinese and Western choreographers, including The Red Detachment of Women and Swan Lake.

Hanoi's Thang Long Water Puppet Troupe, Standing in the pool built exclusively for this show, skilful puppeteers operated the puppets and as the puppets engaged in farming, bullfighting, frog hunting, water play and parades, a delightful series of scenes unfolded accompanied by live music. All this gave full expression to the Vietnamese’s leisure, humor and harmonious relationship with nature.
Local performers from Hong Kong also took to the stage with other stand-out productions. Wong Wing-sze, a star Hong Kong playwright who won the Best Script in the 2011 Hong Kong Drama Awards for The Truth About Lying , returned with her new black comedy Our Best of Youth in Cambrian, telling a story filled with Hong Kong spirit with Tai Hang as its background.
The festival also presented different kinds of musical programs and so on. Refocusing on Asia, this year’s festival has honored the multi-faceted traditions and creativity of Asian arts, showed various cultural treasures from all parts of Asia, and offered a valuable platform to facilitate cultural exchange for Asian artists.
