China would be going on be competitive for a long time, but it would encounter some problems in recent years, maybe 5 years.

Pollution would be a serious issue, but you should take it into account that if a country would become incompetent just because of pollution? Pollution is vital only for those living in affluence. When pollution had been rapidly intensifying in China in 90s and early 00s, it is hanppened to be the peak that China's competitiveness was bounding and few people really concentrated on that at the time.

Therefore, in my opinion, if China wishes to be one of the strongest countries in the world recommended by others, pollution is essentially important. Otherwise, as what you said to be competitive just like present, pollution is not so necessary.
