A worldwide online poll has named the Chinese capital as the country's most cultured city.

The Chinese City Ranking survey, which was launched on June 1, gathered opinions from netizens in more than 26 countries and attracted more than 5.7 million participants.

Beijing topped the list among the 20 contending cities, winning by more than 150,000 votes. Chengdu, Xi'an, Nanjing and Lhasa were ranked second to fifth.

Cultural experts initially selected the 20 cities based on factors such as cultural diversity, cultural heritage preservation, cultural industry development and openness to cultural exchange.

I would have voted for Beijing. But after the Palace Museum is reported to have "accidentally" broken an invaluable artifacts, I say no, not a chance. Who knows if the current Forbidden City has not already been sold wholesale? In fact, a whistle-blower (the same one who exposed the previous incident) revealed today that at least five pieces of relics were sold in the past few years. Indeed, a box of Buddhas were tossed directly into a rubbish bin, again "accidentally".
We are all prisoners of our own device.

Beijing deserves that title....You can't deny its centuries-old history and culture only due to a broken or robbed antique...
Another day , another dollars!
