This is a smart move by China, since their last military involvement with North Korea was (to quote the People's Daily, June 09 2010):

..and as for: "As a matter of fact, Russia, China and N. Korea can hold a trio-nation military exercises in the Yellow Sea soon after the US-S. Korea military exercises. "

...didn't Russia sink a Chinese ship not too long ago?  If I was a Chinese soldier taking part in exercises with those two, I'd fear for my life.
