Without doubt, China can be very very big indeed but we, and China, have to be realistic. There are far more pressing problems within China for them to solve before they try to have the "biggest stick". Social unrest must be tackled first along with pollution, housing prices, inflation, healthcare, education and food availability. These come before another DDG or J-10.

China is reasonable in keeping spending to 2.5% GNP like the rest of the world!
Reasonable because it's surrounded with LARGE and Medium size states with total REGULAR ARMY units totalling 7 - 8 million men! (not including reservist, para military units), and a NAVAL/AIR FORCE in the Eastern Seas with budget almost US$90 billion!!!!

Most of China Forces is LITTORAL, defensive!
It's quite interesting, considering it's the only BIG POWER without a EXPEDITIONARY FORCE!
In FACT, India has already 1 aircraft carrier lead expeditionary force, and 2 more in the pipeline!
and India is only 1/5 the economic size of China!

That's quite reassuring!

hmmmmm

"Food for thought", I supposed! ha ha ha

Anytime there has been a potential for another country to become a power house, the U.S. has successfully sabatoged and brought down that country. In the 1980s, Japan was being very successful and  ...

Yup.  US might do the same to China

China's most threatening power is its population and resources

The skill is how to turn this weakness into a strength. By setting course for the Go West policy Beijing has once again shown their leadership & visionary capability of turning weaknesses into strengths.

This is a classic example of how a huge population is a strength. Force these labour-intensive factories to move to the interior, while upgrading the coastal industries. Not many other countries would have the pool of labour to achieve this. And this is only one of the many examples.

You cannot force ASSEMBLY industry to go into LOGISTICS EXPENSIVE interior - what they can actually do in China, is to increase CONSUMPTION SPENDING in interior cities, or improve freight rail to coastal cities - and create an assembly need in the interior!

Likely to go to INDOCHINA for export assembly!

hmmmm
