The day China surpass Russian areospace, will be the date Russia willing to be the little brother to China.
Russia will be willing to be secondary role player next to CHina.

This means Russia will open up central asia, Siberia for Chinese immigration.

You can go ahead and think that, but the rest of europe has been ahead of Russia for hundreds of years and itdidnt open up.  Russia will always have more resources than China and the way things are going, having oil and natural gas looks to be a winning hand in the next 100 years.

for a long time, i take it that China has the ability to make the air by itself, and it is a little pity to hear that we have to buy the machine from Russia, however, i know and i believe that one day China would make its own engine, even airplane.

Something to consider and practice Google Fu...

... for the Russians used to have a term for their export of jets - "Monkey Models".

It is not a scoop that Russian cannot provide stable stuff: India recently bittlerly regret its russian weapon, like copter, unable to fly due to lack of spares.. It is exactly the same problem for China.

All those beautiful jets like SU 27,35, Mig 29 or 31, are just crap f you consider long time use and endurance. That's why you can see, in western air forces, some venerable b52, c160, mirage IV, flying after more than 40 years, and in East, most of armies that bought Mig 29 only 15 years ago have problem and looking for new stuff now....

Seneca, you are right, there is nothing to be ashamed about the fact that another country that build your fighters are not so good, however, the peerformance of the PLA rescuing the sichuan earthquake victims last year WAS A BIG SHAME, even if chinese media avoid to mention it, PLA wasnt able to bring rescuers and stuff due to lack of choppers, those used are like a flying museum of ex-USSR era...Instead of building new nuclear head that china already have (is it so important to quikly get power to destroy 300 times the planet and not only 100 times?), maybe china should , at first, think about these choppers, because the "PLA " really didnt deserved the "P" last time chinese peoples needed it.

Garbage.

The reason India now buys U.S. weapons is political, as anyone with a modicum of familiarity with current events realizes.

If China needs to buy new choppers, it will do so, and not necessarily French ones.

That you believe the stories about Sichuan from your Western sources isn't surprising. Perhaps you also believe that R. Kadeer should've been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize?

As far as China's nuclear weapons are concerned, it has a way to go before catching up with U.S. stockpiles, and ensuring the U.S. never achieves first strike capability will continue to be the prime pillar of China's defence plans.

The reason that India is buying US is because the dollar is down and the rupee is up.  US stuff has once again become competitive pricewise.  It also is more reliable and can match up against the stuff China is selling to Pakistan.

Who said it should by french choppers, it should make its own choppers but it is clearly evident that the PLAA could use more.
The US army gets lot of bad press for good reasons but it can also transport food for 100,000 people in the first 24 hours of a disaster to anywhere in the world, at it has showed after the asian tsunami, ta!wan typhoon, and most recently philippines flooding and land slides.  If China really wants to make the argument thatthe US should not be in asia it cant let the US keep winning PR battles like this.
As for sichuan i would imagine China had enough light and medium choppers but that it was unable to project them fast enough to the problem area.  Choppers are slow and need to refuel often.  If you cant aerial refuel it could take days for choppers from heilongjiang to get to Sichuan.

The US has had first strike capability over china since the 1950s.  At first China could not retaliate at all, then as now its modern arsenal is too small and its early warning systems to weak.  Still the US has not threatened to strike in 35 years even as China's nuclear capability gets better and better.  The US is even downsizing its arsenal.  So in all likelyhood the nukes being built now are just paranoid wastes of money, enjoy them.
