Title: The Dawning of Internet Censorship in Germany [Print this page]

Author: peterb    Time: 2009-8-15 19:05:28     Title: The Dawning of Internet Censorship in Germany

Germany is on the verge of censoring its Internet: The government – a grand coalition between the German social democrats and conservative party – seems united in its decision: On Thursday the parliament is to vote on the erection of an internet censorship architecture.

The Minister for Family Affairs Ursula von der Leyen kicked off and lead the discussions within the German Federal Government to block Internet sites in order to fight child pornography. The general idea is to build a censorship architecture enabling the government to block content containing child pornography. The Federal Office of Criminal Investigation (BKA) is to administer the lists of sites to be blocked and the internet providers obliged to erect the secret censorship architecture for the government.

They've already started banning the internet on Nazi issues. They also ban any discussions in any media which portray the Chinese government positively

You're right.

It's a concensus among majority of German journalists not to portray Chinese development positively.

This kind of censorhip is more sophisticated.

You should skate on ice in the summer, young Turk.

I don't think that he is Turk, even if he is, where is the problem with that?

Blocking pornography is reasonable, but doing this by "erecting secret internet censorship architecture" is like killing an ant with an ICBM. Most countries have the ability to block pornograpic sites by simply blocking them, and by preventing their estabishment by receiving warnings via images and filter words.

It's obvious that the reasons for Germany doing this are secret as well.

They haven't started to do this. Nazi hate messages are prohibited by law. Full stop. I wish this would also be applicable to other countries. In this respect Germany is an example of good governance.

It is true that Germany's mainstream media portray China negatively whenever possible but this is not done by government order. I'm not sure but perhaps some Germans do consider Chinese people as the jews of the 21st century. It is mainly an expression of fear and jealousy.

Everything China does is wrong and would elicit a hail of criticisim at one, but when things come to the West, it is correct.

A double standard.

Are child pornography websites not already censored ?

I would be absolutely shocked if they were not.

The control of the net by the NWO is already quite tight. This is evidenced by the presence of tens of
thousands of paid shills like Braunschirt,Slimy Spinmaster Jin,Darrel Coleman and so many others.
They jump in at the slightest indication of unorthodox thought in any kind of forum anywhere on Earth and
attempt to steer the discussion away from unorthodoxy back on to the official line. The NWO is however
never satisfied and will undoubtedly bring in measures that will block out all erroneous thought,as in
Orwell's Oceania.Frightening.

When I read some of your "highly intelligent" contributions, check on the web is. lamist p.rop.aganda, see how this is defended or even promoted by your ilk, one can only hope that measures to tighten control of the web will intensify. Child p.orn, hate messages, instructions how to k.ill people and build bombs should be banned from the web once and forever.

Of course they are. This "secret censorship architecture" being planned in Germany has a different purpose.

Interesting that it comes just a few weeks after similar censorship plans were announced by the Australian Govt.

Dude you can't talk about internet censorship and then mention removal of holocaust denial for example, if it's hosted on GERMAN webservers. That's not internet censorship. It's just illegal to deny the holocaust on German ground, no matter if it's a newspaper or a webserver hosted in Germany. It has nothing to do with internet censorship.

Internet censorship is when there is a infrastructure which "jams the signal" between you and a website in a foreign country (USA). That's not happening yet in Germany.

But one politician of the coalition already said something like:
"Since the Olympic games in Beijing we know what is possible..."
"What China can do we should be able to do as well. In this case ..." he likes it to tell the people what they are allowed to see and what they are not allowed to see.

In august last year they were complaining about the chinese Internet "baaaaw they are censoring our news websites baaaaww evil evil censorship". And a few months later they start talking about installing a censorship infrastructure. What a bunch of f**king hypocrites.

When it's about China they say "China censors the internet". When it's about Germany they say "We BLOCK websites". Even if it's exactly the same technology. They're manipulating the people who don't know what they're talking about. Online the netizens seem to recognize that hypocritical bullsh1t.
And those netizens began to "strike back". It got lots of politicians scared and they were insulting the netizens as pedophiles. Or they say that "it's just a little minority which is against censorship".
Those politicians don't even know how to turn on a computer but they want to make laws against the internet. F**king fail.

It's not secret. Only the list of websites is secret.
And no, there are no foreign websites blocked in Germany yet. No child pornography, no terrorism, no whatever. Every information/image/video/sound which is on the world wide web is still available in Germany.

Of course websites with such content are not allowed in Germany and they will be taken offline. Neither are they allowed in any other country which has a real internet infrastructure. If you find a website which hosts child pornography, you only have to write a mail to the provider. Then the server will be taken offline.

A test has shown that most of the websites which are h osting child pornography are hosted in the USA, Europe and India. Those are all countries where child pornography is illegal. So what would you do? Would you write a mail to the provider and ask them to take it offline? Or would you want to show everyone in Germany who tries to view such a website a "STOP!" sign, so they can't view it?
In Germany a STOP sign will be displayed. While the website is still there. And no one is doing anything against it. It's like looking away when you see someone gets beaten up on the street. Instead of helping the victims.
