PARIS - PRESIDENT Nicolas Sarkozy heads into a new showdown with French unions on Thursday as angry factory workers join a nationwide day of strikes and protests against his handling of the economic crisis.
Fired up by a poll showing three-quarters of the public back their movement, unions and left-wing parties hope to draw mor than a million workers into the streets for their second show of force against the government in two months.

Thursday's one-day protest comes against a backdrop of mounting anger over job losses and factory closures, as France and its eurozone neighbours feel the bite of a recession that appears set to last well into 2010.

Et alors? Il y a des greves chaque annee.

Just go to France fort two or three months, and you are sure to experience the downsides of a country run by socialists and their com.m.unist worker un ...

Union seems to be a hot topic during the economic downturns.

Americans are very split on the union issue.  Some older Americans said that the union was a good thing back so many years ago, but it's dragging the country down now.   But the union supporters are trying to pass more laws to make it easy for union to go in companies to recruit members.

From third part point of view, I can see more cons than good things of those unionized companies.

If 3/4 of polled support the union strike, are the majority of French in favor of unionization?  How about other European countries?

Do you know any other country that has both a socialist and a comunist parties? France does!

The French have a deeply ingrained love for this sort of anarchy.

For democratic system, isn't it more parties, more merrier?  At least all interest groups are represented.

As long as the French like their government structure, it obviously works for the country.
