Unfortunately women who are victims of rape are sometimes reluctant to report it as the subsequent police investigation and court appearances simply drag out the suffering, not to mention having their own character called into question by the rapist who may say that the woman was promiscuous and voluntarily engaged in the act.

As mentioned in an earlier post, in some less civilised countries, women who report being raped can end up being punished for "adultery" as their testimony is not taken as seriously as that of a man.
I am not saying this is the case in China, of course, but unfortunately almost everywhere in the world, the woman's reputation is damaged even though she is the victim.
