继任者已经是约定俗成的译法,大家都这么译,我就跟着用了,管它贴切与否,正确(与既定说法一致)才是最重要的。

TO RICHARDK:

As to the meaning of servant, servant does not cover contractor.  Pleas ...

A servant is distinguished from an "independent contractor" who operates his/her own business even though spending much time on the work of a particular person or entity. - a servant is any person in the service of another person or company, but a "independent contractor" works for himself primarily for his own benefit.

"The servant has established hours or piece work, is under the direction of the employer even as to details, cannot work for competitors and acts for the benefit of the employer rather than for himself/herself." - this bit is just giving an example of things that do not apply to "independent contractors"

So all its trying to say is that while they are all "Servants", "independent contractors" are different and are treated differently, an example is you don't pay contractors holiday or sick pay and you don't pay them at all for a bad job as they are "Self employed".
In law there has been a blur in these terms as independent contractors do work along side normal employees and on the surface they seem to do the same job except they get paid many times more money and are famous for being entirely loyal to themselves.

Kind regards

Richard.
