Joe,
if you can be a little honest with yourself you will have to recognise your agenda is incompatible with the topics you present to us. Or you give them the wrong titles.

Your sole agenda  ...

seneca, u v been very informative, except for that little security blanket of kissing up to the anglos.

yes, language is the most important issue of the day.  that's why in my rap, i said:

最后统一 靠文化 Multinational unification must be based on

cultures.

文化基础 在于字 The basis of culture is language.

三字一体 强文化 Now the three languages would strength the

culture(korean, japan and china).

计算机语 会外界 A computer language can be used to interface the

external material world(english).

同在 一个地球上 Existing on the same Earth,

要大的 是语言同 what we really need to unify first is a universal

Earth language.

Why couldn't Korean spread around the world like wildfire?

Various factors can lead to the spread of a language. Some examples follow:

Religion. Arabic spread in part to people wan ...

nothing spreads until it's time.  the time is for a language that can talk to the computer conversationally.  this is my natural-language programming language.  for now the ideal choice is english, but once this programming language take hold in bringing a equitable technical world, we can slip korean in instantly.

if u r interested in help me prepare for the introduction of korea to the world,  here is some of my suggestion, if u can spread the message, on learning korea:

1. learn the writing characters, no matter if its tough initially.

2. learn the language accoustically, forget the video etc nonsense.

3. get the student protected in as much a secure path of constructive learning, no matter how slow and how much the time it takes to explain the logic, which korean has.

4. always restate the literary meaning of the characters(except for polite decorations) in their literaral order -- this allow learn 1 but get 10.

english should be destroyed for it's anti-culture value.  the book of sexual perversion and armageddon-promoting called the bible should be the 1st one to go.

if worrying about whether i m a techie of not, just get on www.ping-pong.net and click the first link to take a drive on my ROBACUS, robotic abacus, which u should notice is completely in english, though trashed.  must try the designing of a space nuclear reactor in 5 secs.

Today, Esperanto is the most widely spoken "planned international auxiliary language"

i would rather give my vote to korean.

also,a universal language is not created(by an egomaniac), it creates itself, like my natural language programming language.  and it would spread only when people needs to survive on it.

comment from my friend tom, a former linquist prof. at standford.

Joe,

Read a little about historical linguistics and languages-in-contact phenomena, in order to predict the future. Mostly the changes you envision are unattested.  But the changes that are attested are fascinating.

There is a movement to specify a computer-processable subset of English; a professor gave a talk on this on UWTV recently.   It is a specialist idea appealing to computational linguists and noone else, and it probably will go nowhere.

I agree that language is for its users, and that highly-educated language and its standards mostly function to disenfranchise the uneducated or differently-educated.  Specialist languages are key to long-term commercial success of their speakers; legal language is different from common language in many cultures, so lawyers can have a reasonand a way to make money, and they successfully maintain it over many generations.

Having overlearned English, I find other languages a lot more interesting.  Having studied linguistics, I am more open and interested in variation.  But most people have strong language attitudes against mis-spellings (and mis-spellers), speakers of other dialects, etc.  Language change, for example, is deplored wherever it is detected, according to all sociolinguistic research.  It is a tough thing to change attitudes.  Obama will probably do it, though.

A character set does not constitute a language, just a language resource.  Han character set is not a language, it is a language resource.  The true form of language, according to linguists, is the vernacular, the form of language used by native speakers when they are conscious of their meaning and message rather than of the forms they are using.

Tom
