Britannia rules nothing .

It must be galling for the western apologists to accept that whereas the mighty USN and RN have never deterred one single pirate attack , a handful of Chinese sailors did !  That is politically incorrect , against all the western conventional wisdom that whites are the only ones who can manage things . But this is 2008 going on to 2009 mates and buddies . The political landscape is a far cry from the colonial " Rule Britannia " days ,huh? Sorry .

Who risks their life for the sake of some floating metal?

now here we have an attitude.

I'd call the "shoe less" dumb. Figure me on the floating iron and a gun in my hand.

Well, I thought that this was actually more important than just a victory for the Chinese psyche.  But, rather a better insight into what might be happening in this region.

The pirates had guns and rocket propelled grenades (RPG’s).  The Chinese Molotov Cocktails and courage.

This begs the question: why didn’t the Pirates use the RPG’s, both on the ship and upon exiting the ship as a reprisal?

A few strategically placed RPG’s might have crushed the resistance and gained the ship.
That would leave us with the dilemma of the death of some of the crew and perhaps that is the nub.

Maybe, the Pirates know that any death will result in a real international force and real action from the international community to rid this area of pirates. That could be something they fear and are not willing to risk.

In fighting back the Chinese sailors have shown that either the Pirates are scared to fight. Their weapons don’t work, or they fear reprisals from an international community and therefore are quite organized and possibly with Somali Government instruction.

Mengzhi, I bet someone could write a thread about tomatoes and you would still add the words: Britannia, whites, apologists, etc.
This thread is about; blacks and yellows. Not a whitey in sight.

The world has moved on a long way since Brtiannia.

Expatter,

There is no way to know whether the RPG can be replaced once fired; if not, the pirates have every reason to keep the RPG and never fire it: it's a useful threat against a lot of vessels many times but if you fire it, you get a decent blast only once. Better to keep your grenade for the next ship.

It's very unlikely that the pirates don't killed anyone because they don't want a real international mission, none of them would actually care because a real international mission wouldn't effect them. It would be very unlikely that a pirate's village would be targeted or that they would be harmed after-the-fact. It's much more likely that they simply don't have a desire to kill anyone. In most cases, the pirates are just decently experienced watermen trying to make a living for themselves and their families. They're not hardened jihadis or ethnic cleansers nor even people who necessarily gain any prestige from killing at all. Moreover, they're not desperate for ships so there isn't much psychological pressure to kill people.

Utter Nonsense
A zodiac is a small craft . To clamber on board a ocean going bulk carrier from there is hazardous if not impossible . What is your point here ?  Do you know how tall the sides of these cargo ships are ? It is high time you do a little learning before you shoot your mouth off .

And after watching the video of the pirates boarding from a small craft.....you are still shooting your mouth off?

Take your own advice.

And Mengzhi (what a surprise) chooses to completely ignore the role the Navy played with their helicopters and ships.

If anything, it shows that countries working together can beat these pirates.

But no, Menghzi would rather ignore that cooperation and continue down his divisive path - if only so he can declare 'Chinese superiority' over the British Navy...just what the hell does the British Navy have to do with this story anyway?!

Here we all were, congratulating the Chinese crew on repelling those repulsive pirates, and the mangy mongrel has to turn it into an attack on whitey.

Shows what a racist little ******** he is.

Let's also remember the Chinese crew are not alone in their bravery. There was a cruise ship in the region a couple of weeks ago which was also targetted by pirates. They also successfully fended off the pirates (using speed rather than flammable liquids).
