heart vs stomach

:) This is a very interesting topic: heart vs stomach

(1) Long, long ago ... Queen Elizabeth I of England said something like this:
"I have the body of a frail woman, but  the heart and stomach of a king."

(2) Consider the phase spoken of someone brave (has courage) -- "He's got guts."

(3) Among theater actors there is an old trick for overcoming too much nervousness before a performance.
Stand a meter away from a wall and lean over, pushing against the wall. This will tighten your stomach
muscles and help take the fear/nervousness away.

(4) In a bad social situation (e.g, where someone with higher status humiliates someone),
the person may experience a tightness in the chest. CONSIDER THE PHASE:  "beat their breasts"

Too many words ... What's the point?

If you tighten your stomach muscles, you will be less likely to have to beat your breast .

What does that mean?

:) The prime minister has stomach muscles so strong, he could pole the boat with them ...
which means he would be fearless and above being humiliated by anyone ...
SINCE his feelings cannot be hurt by anyone, he never has to react in anger ...
and can therefore be magnanimous to all.

Perhaps that is how you get from a "boat-poling stomach" ... to a "big heart."

Maybe.

Literally: A prime minister has a stomach vast enough (say, like a lake) for a boat to be poled (撑)around in.

Well, that's a very different kettle of fish, isn't it.
The prime minister has a stomach so big
he could eat you, your family, and your entire village ...
BUT  because his heart is so big, he won't.

Please excuse my silliness.
But you must admit it is a fascinating image -- a stomach so vast .... you could pole a boat around in.
Reminds me of Jonah and the whale!
