i will never recommend for F visa if you are working, go for Z visa and have your company ready for supporting papers. Z visa is way better! for those who are working.

yes, I also know Z  visa is better than F. Not every foreigner working in China really get a Z visa. Some of them are not qualified.
However, I often see some agents company their customers to apply visa in Entry Bureau in Guangzhou. Maybe for some people, they really need their service. One is willing to serve, the other is willing to pay. If illegal, why the agent can apply visa for the customers..but one thing I really dont like is that agent's price is way too high. Sometime, foreigners can apply visa in their own countries for a longer term in a lower price. The money they pay for the agent is enough pay for the airplane tickets. So pls dont think every customer is a ' water fish'( it means someone who can be easily cheated).  It is my own opinion.

From April 2008 till October 2008, foreigners cannot get longer visas (duration of each stay) even in their home country.
Now it seems in HK NON-HK ID holders still can NOT get multiple-entry visas. The duration of each stay is not so satisfactory, either.

The visas that you get in China mainland have NO limitation of each stay, which means you don't have to leave each 30, 60 days for only exit/ re-enter purpose.
A 6-month F visa can enable you to stay as long as 6 months without leaving. The entries are only for you expected or unexpected schedule. You can use none of them if you like.

Compared with the costs and tiredness to travel to HK, Macau, Korea for only exit/re-enter purpose, it is worth getting a visa through an agent sometimes, isn't it?

But if you are in Shenzhen, Guangzhou.., it is different. :)

You are no more legal now than you ever were before.

Anybody who really needs a visa can get it legally, and much cheaper, from the designated Chinese visa-issueing authorities.

No go-betwee ...
Brother i think you have to check it carefully. Extension of "F" is possible through agent or export company with following documents. letter of recommendation from bureau of foreign trade cooperation bureau, letter from export company, residence registration certificate or evidence of stay at 3-5 star hotel.
calm down please it is not bad if he have put an information on BBS. although PBS put a lot of information in chinese but it is difficult for foreigner to understand it. If you are a government employee   or if you working in PBS   it would be a great job if you suggest PBS to put such information on internet in english as well  for the benefit of foreigners who need to extend it.  Different regulations are there for different countries. Export company people are always confused  for the changing regulations.

From March 16, 2009 on, the service of converting visa types from L to F is available again in Beijing. The price is quite high, though.
At least, it means there are and will be some good changes after a more than 2-month pause.

F visa only valid until Sep. 30, 2009

From today (April 15, 2009) on, in Beijing F visa can only be extended till Sep. 30, 2009. So does visa conversion from L to F. The 1-year F visas (NO limitation of each stay) are NOT available again. And the 6-month F visas are not full ones (now it is 5 and a half month long).

The new visa restriction is mainly because of the approaching 60th anniversary of P.R.China founding.
