It has been my observation that a more than few forumites have a notion that most, if not all, groups coming out of America are merely fronts to the C I A.  To that end, I bring up the example of the United Auto Workers - a.k.a. the UAW.

Founded in the late 1920's to help the "little guy" sustain a decent wage at places like Ford, GM, and Chrysler - this union took more than it's share of lumps from Henry Ford and conservative elements in the U.S. Government.  The UAW has worked with organizations, like the AFL-CIO, to help improve working conditions across the world as well.

For more information, visit www (dot) uaw (dot) org

So, what say you forumites of the China Daily BBS?

<if the mods allow, I will edit in more choices as they are warranted>

TV,

One option is missing that's:     Don't know

Unions are sometimes important, sometimes even necessary, sometimes they just serve themselves and often they're just a pain in the back.

No idea about the UAW.

Don't know much about the UAW (aside form Hoffa and the obvious racketeering)
But I once was a member of the United Steelworkers of America.
Great T-shirts, btw!

... Jimmy Hoffa telling the politburo that he was in P.R. China to organize the Chinese Truck Drivers... <shutter>  That would be a Hell of a show.

To connect unions with the CIA? No, I believe that's laughable. But - don't laugh - more often there are/were connections with mobsters, no?
