It is always good to do some sales at some point in time in one's career.

That is the way to meet more people, learn the art and science of analyzing, convincing, negotiating and coordinating.

First, how to find potential customers, then how to analyze them so as to know how to approach them or how to move on if they are seen to be not interested, then how to convince them which also means how to know what are the good points of what is being marketed, then how to negotiate with them, finally if the deal is done, how to coordinate with others in the company with the customer in his/her company so as to deliver good product and/or service.

Seen like that, it becomes a mind game, then a personality upgrade, then a strategist planning.  Even if done through a website, these things can still be done by careful and subtle ways.  There are many references on how to attract visitors to website to view advertisements and so on.

These will be qualities later needed for other tasks as well.

To just do network design means back-office desk-job facing the screen, writing codes and drawing wiring diagrams, or trouble-shooting technical problems;  these can be fun too but, like network sales, they form part of the whole thing called network service.

Having done some sales is a good experience to have in one's resume.

Lucky to have a job that requires speaking to convince.  Even ceo's must speak to convince.  Mostly, that's their job, when one thinks of it.
