US-led raid kills 16 Afghan civilians

Tue Jul 12, 2011 4:25PM

A US-led airstrike in the troubled eastern Afghanistan has killed at least 16 people, mostly women and children, officials say.

The causalities come after an airstrike targeted residential areas overnight in the Azra district of Afghanistan's Logar province.

"Twelve civilians, including women and children, were killed last night when NATO planes targeted two houses," AFP quoted a regional police chief as saying.

The official also said that the bodies of four suspected Taliban militants had been recovered from the rubble.

Last week, the death of two children in a US-led airstrike sparked demonstrations in southern Afghanistan. NATO says it is investigating the incident.

The United States is pressing ahead with its attacks in Afghanistan despite continuous protests from the Afghan people and government.

President Hamid Karzai has repeatedly condemned attacks on civilians, saying NATO must stop searching for suspected terrorists in Afghan residential areas.

Hundreds of civilians have lost their lives in the US-led airstrikes and ground operations in various parts of Afghanistan over the past few months, with Afghans growing frustrated over the seemingly endless number of deadly assaults.

The attacks have left a large number of Afghan civilians dead since the start of the invasion of Afghanistan in 2001.

The surge in violence comes despite the presence of 150,000 foreign troops, which are engaged in the so-called war on terrorism.

The war in Afghanistan, with civilian and military casualties at record highs, has become the longest war in US history.

Are you guys working on commission? That's over 70 people you killed today? How many yesterday? How many tomorrow? And then you go home and call yourselves Veterans and then get depressed, unemployed and commit suicide. Is that it? Is that the great country they once called The United States of America? Like the IDF, you will be brought to justice one day and the hangman's noose will do its job on you. Remember me as you fall and give our regards to Hell.

China bravely challenges USA's predominance

15.04.2011

This week, China has demonstrated its growing power to the world twice. First off, China accused the USA of the appalling state of affairs in the field of human rights. Secondly, the country strongly refused form the suggestion of BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) to move the US dollar aside and make the Chinese yuan a convertible currency.

In the beginning of April, the US State Department cracked down on the issue of human rights in China. The latter responded in two days. The response was different from what Washington usually heard from China. Beijing would normally set out its protests against Washington's interference into China's internal affairs. However, on April 11, Chinese newspapers published a report by the State Council of the People's Republic of China - Human Rights Record of the United States in 2010. The report said that "the United States turned a blind eye to its own terrible human rights situation and seldom mentioned it." "The United States reports the world's highest incidence of violent crimes, and its people's lives, properties and personal security are not duly protected," the document also said.

US special services violate the rights of American citizens for privacy, the Chinese report said. The Americans are being spied on all the time, their personal mail gets constantly monitored, their emails and letters get copied, etc.

At least 20 percent of Americans fall victims to such crimes in the country every year, the report from the State Council of China said. The USA is the richest country in the world, but the protection of economic, social and cultural rights of Americans has been changing from bad to worse, the report says.

To crown it all, Chinese leaders said the following: "The USA regards itself as "the beacon of democracy." However, its democracy is largely based on money."

Needless to say that Beijing paid attention to Washington's countless violations of human rights outside the United States, especially in Iraq and Afghanistan, where US-led actions resulted in numerous casualties among civilians.

From the point of view of the United States, the Chinese report is nothing but blatant impudence. America believes that it has the privilege of judging other countries of the world on their human rights issues and democratic standards. Being the "beacon of world democracy", Washington grins to any criticism of its own democracy.

Nowadays, the West can only remember the wonderful times of opium wars, when "civilized" countries could do whatever they wanted in China. The Celestial Empire is publicly challenging the United States today. The above-mentioned statements challenge the US predominance in the world and clearly demonstrate disagreement with American dictate.

Afterwards, on April 13, China demonstrated its influence within the framework of the BRICS organization. The members of the organization, including the new one - South Africa - put forward a suggestion to China, the world's second largest economy, to make the yuan a freely convertible currency to relieve the world from the dictatorship of the US dollar.

China was trying to get rid of the dollar before. However, the country declined the suggestion from other BRICS members.

"China indeed supports the introduction of a new monetary unit in international settlements. However, it can be possible in remote future only," Sergei Luzyanin, deputy director of the Institute of the Middle East told Pravda.Ru.

"Of course, the Chinese do not like America, but the reality makes them accept the state of affairs that exists today. It's not a profitable initiative for China to replace the dollar with the yuan as a monetary unit. The giant Chinese economy depends on America directly. This dependence is expected to decrease in the future, which will also reduce the need in dollar settlements.

"For the time being, the world is still living under the threat of another wave of the financial crisis. It goes without saying that Beijing is not willing to jeopardize its economy even more," the expert said.

It is worthy of note that China does not accept any recommendations about its national currency from other countries. The USA has been trying to put pressure on China to make the country strengthen the yuan. However, the weaker yuan removes many obstacles for Chinese goods on the American market. This raises serious concerns with Washington, which becomes more dependent on China from the point of view of economy.

Great Satan's Human Rights Violations Exposed

'Iran to expose US crimes'
Thu Jul 21, 2011 2:50PM GMT

Iranian legislator Hossein Sobhani-Nia
An Iranian lawmaker says the decision of the country's Majlis (parliament) to impose sanctions on 26 US officials over human rights violations will help expose US crimes.

“The US claims to be an advocate of human rights and accuses Iran of human rights violations, but a cursory glance at the deeds of most of American officials shows us numerous crimes against humanity and blatant instances of the violation of human rights committed by them,” IRNA quoted Iranian lawmaker Hossein Sobhani-Nia as saying on Thursday.

“US officials have taken every opportunity since the [victory of] the Islamic Revolution, in line with their hostile approach, to organize anti-revolutionary and anti-Islamic Republic movements,” the vice president of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Iran's Majlis said.

“America is making attempts to push baseless accusations of human rights violations against the Islamic Republic at any opportunity and under any false pretext, and the parliamentarians have thus concluded that it is necessary to make an effort for the exposition of human rights violations [committed] by the US,” the lawmaker pointed out.

Sobhani-Nia noted that initial investigations revealed 26 instances of flagrant violation of human rights by US officials.

"Those involved were sanctioned by Iran as violators of human rights,” he said.

These are only a few instances of the many US violations of human rights and the first step by the Islamic Republic in publicizing the US crimes against humanity, the parliamentarian stressed, vowing more revelations were to be made.

The single-urgency motion of sanctioning 26 US officials, signed by more than 200 representatives, was presented to the Majlis Presiding Board on Wednesday.

Some of the atrocities committed by US officials as referenced by the motion include cases of human rights violation, construction and running of dreadful secret prisons, interference in the domestic affairs of regional countries and the killing of civilians.

In May, Amnesty International (AI) slammed the United States for its indefinite detentions in Afghanistan and at the Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba, as well as its flawed capital punishment system.

In October 2010, the United Nations Human Rights Council also released a report expressing serious concerns about human rights abuse in the US.

'US adopts pick and choose policy on human rights violations'

Thu Jul 28, 2011 6:31PM GMT

The United States has adopted a policy of "pick and choose" toward violations of human rights in the world "unless there is a national interest to raise it," says a former Pentagon officer.

"The Israelis are some of the most discriminatory people in the world [with] the way they treat Arabs and Palestinians," and yet the Obama administration "ignores that fact," Michael Maloof told Press TV's U.S. Desk in an interview on Thursday.

"If the United States were true to its ideology it would be raising all kinds of issues with the Israelis about their human rights activities," he said.

Maloof further added that Washington would continue to send aid packages to Israel with "no precondition of human rights activities."

The $3.075 billion in aid granted to Israel would remain intact in 2012, senior U.S. officials said Wednesday.
