Black America Feels the Sting of Ex-President's Comments ( Bill Clinton )
Washington Post ^ | January 25, 2008 | Darryl Fears

Posted on 01/24/2008 10:14:55 PM PST by george76

For nearly two decades, Yvette Wider, an African American, adored Bill Clinton, once described by a famous black novelist as the nation's first black president.

But now, after Clinton's "fairy tale" remark about Sen. Barack Obama ...in New Hampshire and a statement in South Carolina that Obama had put a political "hit job" on him, Wider said she feels she hardly knows the former president.

"I was surprised to hear him make a comment like that, because I thought he understood our people better," said Wider, who said she will vote for Obama in Saturday's South Carolina primary. "It made me think he's been playing us all this time."

Wider's sentiments are echoing across black America -- on blogs, Web chats and talk radio, where Clinton is being attacked as never before.

It is a significant turnabout for Clinton, who throughout most of his presidency counted black people as his staunchest supporters. Less than eight years ago, African Americans gave the former president a stratospherically favorable rating -- higher than those for Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.

With his attacks on Obama, however, that appears to be changing, causing some strategists and observers to wonder whether Clinton's behavior will alienate black voters whom his wife... will need should she win the nomination.

"The tone of some of the things he said just crossed a line," ...

Clinton's tone toward Obama "was demeaning," Toomer said ...

"He was calling him a boy, a kid, living in a dream land. I don't think he deserves the title of being a friend or being the first black president."

Wow, you are quick on the draw, buddy!

I am talking about the presidential race.

Many blacks are voting Obama merely cause he is black and also voting for Clinton because she is white.

Racial Prejudices

Racial prejudices, unthinking hatred, and irresponsibility mistaken for freedom, will be on continuous display for the next 10 months, making America again the laughing stalk of the world.  There is no avoiding it.  What you are seeing is just Democrat against Democrat.  It is going to turn butt ugly when the Republicans take off their kidgloves.

This use of lying contests every 4 years to pick "leaders" (who can't lead themselves out of a paperbag if their lives depended on it) is truly amusing, if not so dangerous to the health and welfare of folks all around the globe.

<chuckle>

Hm... have you gentlemen taken a look at the census data of late?  Tu Hablas Esponal?

And do pay attention to the "other" catagory - you will be surprised at that voting block.  As for Hilary and Obama... <laughing> ... you will be surprised how fast those two will kiss and make up at the DNC in a few months, when they are announced at the President (Hilary) and VP (Obama) Ticket for 2008.

They say politics makes for strange bedfellows...

Tongluren, I don't know if I hate you or like you. But in this case I agree. When I lived in the states (my whole life, really) I always HATED when this time came around. And one big part of it (shall I give the america-haters more fuel?) is how much money is spent on election campaigns. And they dare ask me on my tax form if I want $1 to go toward the election campaigns... ha! I'll be needing that dollar thank you... oh, or was it a dollar I already gave you anyway? Not sure... well in that case it's a toss-up... will it be used for war or to pave the highway? Well, not for election campaigns unless you're going to give it to the Green Party or the Libertarians or some even smaller party. The democrats and republicans don't need any more advertising, we all know enough about them already....

As for the racial part of this thread, I'm out.... See ya.

Oh wait! Tradervic - that's awesome... I just imagined them behind the curtain making a little pact.... "hey, what say no matter which of us gets it, the other gets the VP, ok?" [spit, shake]

It'd REALLY help the Democrats win, so no "loser votes" turn independent or no-shows. And it'd give the VP a chance at the Big Seat next time around. Yeah. They should just work together. Like a big huge wave washing over the republicans.

I *do* think..... that Osama will have a harder time winning  the presidency then Hilary. I mean if Hilary runs, the Republicans will mostly think of her as just another Democrat (sort of). But if Osama runs... can you hear the little southern voices screaming "I'll be damned if I'm gonna let a N** run this country!!" and they'll all rally their couch potato friends to vote even though they never voted before...
I am not rich.  :L
