Most people see torture as justifiable in so-called "ticking bomb" scenarios; the administration, in order to get support for the war in Iraq and numerous onerous law enforcement provisio ...

Torture is inhumane and totally against the values of all civilized nations. To permit the torture of a living being is an abomination.
For a nation that pretend to aspire to moral principles, torture is unacceptable.

It degrades your country, causing your values and culture to slide into a mentally and spiritually primitive condition.

GTH,

Here's the extreme scenario:

"Somewhere in Beijing, a thermonuclear device has been planted and carefully concealed. The man who planted the device has been captured, thereby revealing that the device exists. As he is being captured, he presses a button and countdown begins. There is likely only enough time to defuse the bomb provided that its location is known; if the city must be searched, time will quickly run out. The man refuses to talk but it comes to your attention that his 8-year-old son was also taken into custody as they were found together. You know that the man will give you the information you need if you torture his son before his eyes.

The clock is ticking and over 17 million lives are on the line. Dependent on your actions, either the world will never know what happened or millions of innocent lives will be destroyed, vaporized in an instant and the city wiped from the face of the Earth. What do you choose?"

Most people will elect torture to be acceptable either under these conditions or with the proviso that they not do so themselves (e.g., a subordinate takes on the grisly duty). This is akin to the trolley problem where you must decide between killing one man on the left track or plowing the trolley through a shopping district, killing ten.

The US calls itself a Christian country yet use torture to get the information they want.

Torture is immoral and it goes against a lot of these people's beliefs, but it seems like the religious view is only applied when convenient, because with this administration its easier to use torture.

Guess where it is going for its actions? Where I live!
