摆场面--- For example, in the wedding feast, the new couple would like at least 10-20 tables sitting aroud with guests to show the grandness of the wedding ceremony.

this issue --- for those who REALLY should have it, like Paris Hilton, yes.
For those who should not, it worked just the opposite -- in Western culture it is called an imitation of life. e.g. a lot of Chinese immigrants in my country like to drive a Benz when they can barely afford other essentials. Now, to me, those are fakes -- because they need the Benz to dress themselves up while they are not UP. These are imitators. Wait another 10 years when they are REALLY rich and spend money on charity, then they can drive a Benz and no one will say they are dressing up or try to imitate. The under-priviledged who try to own something that is not matching their life style is a pure imitation of life. Then there are first timer who can qualify for that -- doctors and lawyers, etc. They are UP with or w/o a Benz. Howard Hughes drove a beat up American Car in the 190's and he was the richest man on earth!
