I do not know but I thought it was a pornography that I watched.

Serious question - have you ever watched any real pornography?

I am asking because a) your views on pornography and b) you feel the movie under discussion is pornography.
Take me down to the paradise city, where the grass is green and the girls are pretty

I personally think it is a great movie.

It is thought-provoking. The characters are vividly-portrayed. I do not think that Wong Kai Chi betrayed her organization for the big diamond.

If one ...

I remember Mencius had a word, "人有恒言,皆曰天下国家。天下之本在国,国之本在家,家之本在身。" (The world is based on countries, a country is based on families, and a family is based on humans.) Generally people think a family can be sacrificed for a country, and a human can be sacrificed for a country. But, who cares about the suffering of the family and the person? The movie tries to show the complex characters of many patriots on a humanistic side.
Some persons often censure Li An has no patriotism. But, in this movie, some words of Mr. Yi shows his bloodiness, and such details are the purposeful depiction of the director for showing the cruelty of Mr. Yi. So no one will sympathize with Mr. Yi.
Wang Jiazhi didn't betray anyone. She was only a young woman who had naive wish and pure patriotism. She was also a sacrificial lamb, too. Who sympathized with her? Her leader disliked hearing her complaint, and he only wanted her to do anything he ordered.
We need true patriotism, not crazy "patriotism". In the Ming Dynasty, "patriotic" people ate the flesh of Yuan Chonghuan(袁崇焕) who was a ture patriotic general. Who sympathized with him at that time? When the Manchu invaders came, why did not those "patriotic" people have bravery to resist?

I think this movie is not pornographic, because the sexual episodes are not the main scenes of the movie.
About sexual passion, not only modern people, but also ancient people, all of them have sexual passion. Even in serious historical works, we still can see some stories which are implicative to sexual passion.

Very well written. I agree what you said. Personally I liked the movie but I will not watch it again. It was too graphic for me. It does feel like pornography. But if Ang Lee did not make it that graphic, he would not have made the point of Lust, Caution.

I forgot the characters' names, so, I will use their real name. I think Wang LeeHom sympathize her at the end for the pain she had gone through. The leader is just a heartless person that is why he did not want to listen. He is only trying to protect himself. If you listen to what Tang Wei said to the leader for what Tony Leung did to her while having sex, it was unbearable. You can tell by the leader's expression that he cannot tolerate the description of the sex. Tang Wei is only their toy.

I share your views about lacaterina's writing, well-written and very persuasive.  After reading it, I almost have a change of thought .... but, wait, not so.  Will have a go on this another day.

As a whole, I don't like the movie.  I find it generally very boring and shallow until the graphic scenes appear.  That's where I find the movie, the sex scenes very "intense and gripping", and my thought on the sole purpose of the movie.

It is a pornography indeed, 李安 (Lee Ang's) "hard-sell".

I might want to see the movie again (hopefully, get hold of a DVD where I can play back and forth at one flat rate or for free from a friend); and it is just for the "graphic" details. .... and, of course, provided I have another 2 or 2+half hours for it.
