原来Mandarin有那么多意思。Mandarin Language 普通话, Mandarin duck 鸳鸯, Mandarin Orange橘子,
:-), how about "Mandarin Words" 官腔!

柑 tangerine  
橘 clementine
橙 orange

Both 柑and 橘(桔))are also known as "mandarin orange".
过去北方话里分不清这三者,只统称“橘子”,南方柑橘产地才分得细些,而“橙子”似乎是最迟登陆北方词汇的,难怪词典里 orange既指柑,又指橙,还指橘。
至于mandarin orange何以得名,莫非因为柑橘最早原产中国两广一带?走向世界,大凡中国奇珍,夷族皆冠以"满大人“(Mandarin),此又一例。

I think I know the difference between 橙 and 柑 (I mean the inside is different - segments in the latter are easier to take apart). So, can you or anyone further describe 橘?  And I am starting to wonder if I have ever had any 橘.

南方称 clementine 为桔,像个小号的柑。

grapefruit不是柚子

形、色像橙,多汁也如橙。不知哪位“先驱”译为西柚,莫名其妙。当然肯定不是柚子(shaddock?)。
