其翻译是:送这个礼物给一个习惯穿西装的人似乎有点不讨巧。
这是不是翻译错了?是否应该翻译成:送这个礼物给一个不经常穿西装的人似乎有点不讨巧。

原翻译这一部分没错

seldom 很少 seen 被人看到 out of 不穿着 a suit 西装

不过,unlikely 译作“不讨巧”不是很贴切。(Thanks to hly for pointing this out.)

这里,把unlikely 译作“不讨巧”,我倒是觉得这个词用得不错。北京话管这叫“不让人待见”,或是说“没眼力价”。不知道正式翻译应该怎么翻。

试译:

把一件夹克送给一个整日西服革履的人(指英国首相布朗),颇有些让人不待见。

Without context, unlikely (not likely) means something that you normally would not expect to happen.
