but seriously.. in the past Chinese have really had one partner.. and alot of Children
Honestly i believe that guy polled mostly men, and all the men lied.. as they always do.
and they could be referring to professional sex workers they slept with
it would be impossible to get any average woman in China to tell you the truth about how many people she had sex with..
the guys on the other hand would all lie, spatting out some outrageously high number to sound like more of a man...
Besides strictly adhering to the normative practice of social surveys, we developed three novel features in our research methodology:
First, we never conducted our inquiries in the residential quarters of the respondents, since nobody likes to talk about one's own sexual life in the face of one's family members in one's own home, let alone to talk about multi-partner relations. As a rule we invited each respondent to come to our room in a hotel as prearranged and meet an interviewer of the same sex in a closed room setting, talking one to one, while the interviewer tried his/her best to persuade the interviewee-to provide honest answers.
Second, maximum anonymity was attained by the practice that the final interviewer was not the same person as the one calling to arrange the interview. We made adequate explanation to the respondent about this point.
Third, a portable laptop computer was used to make the inquiry' All questions were displayed on the screen of the computer, and the respondent just struck the appropriate key to answer the relevant question. At first, with regard to non-sensitive questions, the interviewer would operate the computer, showing the respondent how to manipulate it. When sensitive questions related to sexual behavior appeared on the screen, the respondent would be required to operate the computer single-handedly and answer the relevant questions of his/her own accord. At this later stage, the interviewer would sit far enough from the respondent in an opposite direction, so the interviewer could not tell what answer was made, as the cover of the computer served as a second barrier.
For illiterate respondents or those not understanding putonghua a headphone linking with the laptop computer was used, with the aid of the headphone the respondent could hear the audio-delivered questions spoken in any one of China 's four common dialects. In case this procedure did not work, the interviewer had to conduct the inquiry personally through questions (with explanations if necessary) and answers.
Our effective response rate was 76.3%, based on 3824 samples.
In our questionnaire, most questions would be answered by the use of a scale. In case only 44 variables related to the sample of 2619 married respondents without any absent items on the relevant scales were considered,山e standard reliability is 0.7819. In case we examine only the 18 main scales of the maximum sample of 3788 people (very few questions were put to the unmarried and the asexual), then the total reliability is 0.6061.
The aforementioned facts indicate that the methods used in our investigations were successful.
Among our sample 50.2% were male and 49.8% female; average age 38.93 years (mean value is 37.00, with a standard deviation of 11.75). Those with permanent residence in the urban districts of Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou accounted for 1.4% of the sample, those residing in the urban districts of provincial capitals accounted for 5.3%, those residing in the urban districts of prefecture-level cities accounted for 11.0%, those living in county-level cities or in county seats accounted for 14.1 %, and those still living in the country-side accounted for 66.4%.
Those who had had any kind of multi-partner sexual behavior in their lifetime accounted for 13.6%. Irrespective of gender, the highest proportions occurred in the age cohort 30-34 living in urban settings, with males reaching 45.8% and females reaching 17.7%.
Those males who had had any sex transaction behavior accounted for 7.6% of the male population, of which those who had visited prostitutes accounted for 6.4% of the male population. The highest proportion of males having engaged in sex transaction occurred in the age cohort 25-29 of urban populations, attaining 20.6%, with 16.7% having visited prostitutes.
