Common people usually think that a "theory" is something that has yet to be proven. In scentific language, however, it actually denotes a proven set of ideas that rest on a fairly solid ground and that can predict new outcomes.
Thus the theory of relativity is not a "theory" in the sense "I have a theory", but a systematic framework for determining the intrinsic properties of space-time. It is a theory that predicts results with an insane precision.
Darwinian theory of evolution also rests on a fairly solid ground, and it has helped predict features in species that should exist (and that have later been found). Since the 1950s, when the DNA molecule was discovered, the theory has been radically strenghtened, and we can now describe evolution on a very small scale using genetics. It is valid beyond any (scientific) doubt whatsoever.
Natural selection, genetics, and so on are not a matter of belief. It is a matter of fact.
Scientology, creationism, "intelligent design" and such crap, on the other hand, are all bogus religious stuff that do not stand up an inch to scientific criteria or the scientific method.
People are free to believe whatever they want, but if they "believe" that Darwinian theory is wrong, they just prove themselves stupid.
