:)pretending or some kind of (a suitable amount of) coolness is a good way. Remember to choose the occation and don't overdo it...
You can also refuse indirectly but clearly. Such as, kindly refuse his/her gifts...Never leave things unclear if you really don't like him or her... But if you don't know the person quite well and cannot decide immediately, that's quite another thing...
