Perhaps ... unspoken love

(another way of saying "secret love" but conveying the idea of a closed mouth / sealed  [no words spoken] )

But remember that I do not speak Chinese.

-----
Hmmm ...  Thinking some more ...
"unspoken love" is not quite the same as "secret love"
but I'm going to shut up for now ...

---
Seems I can't shut up about this.

"unspoken love" = when two people have feelings of love toward each other,
but it is never mentioned  ...

"secret love" = when two people have a loving relationship
but which they do not let others know about ...

But excuse my sloppy noise about this ... I'm just having fun
thinking about what the Chinese might mean (based on literal translations
of the characters)

The reason you can have so much fun with this question is because nobody is really sure what “守口如瓶”(keep mouth shut (as tightly as) a (capped) bottle)means when it is used to describe "love".  Why, how, and by whom is the secret to be kept to oneself? You can give free reign to your imagination and make up your own story!

Thanks, JL .. for giving license ... for a rovi-inspired story.

Once upon a time

the Emperor loved his cat.

Everybody knew.

But if anyone

mentioned the Emperor's love,

they would pay the price.

The love gossiper

would be sealed in a clay jar

and thrown in the sea.

So I guess you see

why I will keep my mouth shut

regarding ...
