Please pay attention to quality of water in the Yangtze!

Careful use of fertilizers, water treatment of industrial, urban sewage and agricultural use will protect health of people downstream.

There is much talk about HEAT OVEN centres in China.

This relates to region around SICHUAN, SHANGHAI and now even GUANGZHOU cities.
Time to reduce URBAN HEAT ENGINE of those cities and those in tier-1 cities.
This could reduce the temperature rise and it could affect the weather patterns.

copy a little from Singapore....and create a GARDEN CITY!
plant shading trees along highways.
Suggest gardens, heat insulation on rooftops of buildings!

cheerios!

Maybe the "Urban Heat Engines" are helping to cause the unfavourable climate in Sichuan this few years?

Any study?

i read about the Sichuan problems recently.........

they faces flood as well drought though it is a cold place just besides the Himalayas...............

The glaciers melted too fast,~20 gone & here flooded the valley...........

on the othe hand no rains so that land was so parched the poor farmers got noo food to eat.................

So Sichuan is a nature's problem but the tough people still manange to eke out a living.........

If u go to a Valley where there are  few thousand nuns&some monks like in village shaped like Bodhi leave, pls do yr share to help their heatiness. There air-con is dug up underground room share by 10-15 people

Let's do some simple science! Emperical methods!

Size of heat oven cities - Shanghai, Guangzhou (PRD), Sichuan (double over - Chengdu/Chongqing).

all have population total of almost 30 million to 90 million (in Guangzhou PRD region).
all have PAVED ROADs, paved sidewalk and buiding of rocks, cement.
unlike greenery which has "water evaporation" route, cooling is unlikely and air temperature gets high in summer.

high temperature around the city, causes low pressure region of a large scale - imagine the size of PRD!
cooler region, in Sichuan - the glaciers of himalaya, Pacific Ocean for Guangzhou, and Shanghai.....Attracts STORMs due to bigger degree of difference in air pressure.

Thus heat from urbanization....and more rain from causing wind to flow towards it!

Solution, ROOF gardens, Tree lines highway and streets, more light colour building (avoid deep colour buildings).....

It's quite an issue!

Wah! saw that Yangtze river report!

wow! speed of river flow drop 90%...serious silt problem ahead!
Shouldn't the river flow speed increased once the THREE GORGE DAM is filled up?

anyway, still have to POLLUTION MONITORING station all along that river!
maybe even filtering nets places, more use of efficient fertilizer use (such as drip fertilization etc.), enforced cities to "treat sewage" and "industrial waste".

and now "harvesting the algae" for use in producing biofuels? (that's the idea of the October issue of NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC, which seems to have basically made our discussions here into an article. Almost half of the october issue is about our discussion in the bbs)

ha ha ha

ah! the bbs, pretty influential!
